AC Milan vs Arsenal
4th March 2008 – Champions League Rd 2 Leg 2 - Emirates Stadium

It’s a little surprising that this match is not on terrestrial channel ITV1 tonight but instead on ITV4 on digital.

I have been looking forward to this match since the first leg when we played so well but ended the match we dominated with only a 0-0 draw.

This means that if we score tonight then Milan would need to score two because of the away goals rule.

The form for both teams is not great with Arsenal not wining any of our last 4 matches and AC Milan have only won once in six matches.

The line up tonight is:

Manuel Almunia
Philippe Senderos
Gael Clichy
William Gallas
Bacary Sagna
Abou Diaby
Emmanuel Eboue (Theo Walcott 71)
Cesc Fabregas
Mathieu Flamini
Alexander Hleb (Gilberto 89)
Emmanuel Adebayor

We have our first attack of the game after 20 seconds as we signal our intent, but Adebayor can’t control it and the ball goes out for a free kick.

It’s a very bright start but it will be very much a midfield battle tonight, a chess match in fact.

The first shot of the match comes after 7 minutes but Hleb’s shot goes well over.

Moments later Milan win the first corner of the match and Pato’s shot is saved off the line by Fabregas after Almunia is beaten.

Gallas goes down injured after 10 minutes but is able to continue after some treatment.

We have a good chance on 12 minutes after some excellent work from Adebayor holding the ball up and the releasing it to Diaby, whose shot is saved.

Inzaghi has a shot on target for Milan in the 15th minute but it has no power and is an easy save for Almunia.

We have a very good spell for a few minutes but don’t have any chances during this time.

In the 18th minute the World Player of the Year, Kaka, shows his class as he runs the whole length of the pitch with the ball before passing to Pato who wastes the chance with a poor shot.

A couple of minutes later Cesc takes a free kick from outside of the area but it goes over the bar.

We are giving Milan far too much space around the area and need to sort this out before we get punished.

Adebayor forces a finger tip save in the 27th minute, and win the corner but it’s poor and is easily cleared.

On 34 minutes the excellent Cesc Fabregas unleashes a great shot that beats the keeper but not the woodwork. We really need to start taking these chances.

Hleb is playing very well today; actually the whole team is playing well. Over the two games we have showed that we are a better team than AC Milan that doesn’t count for anything if we don’t win.

We dominate the last 10 mins of the half but are unable to get the goal we deserve.

Half-Time

We start as we left off, having lots of possession but not many chances. To be fair Milan haven’t either and we look the better team.

As we approach the hour mark you could fit a Rizla between the two sides. It’s 50\50 at the moment and hard to say which team will win this tie.

My confidence is waning because we are playing so well but not scoring. It’s not helped in the 67th minute when Eboue is brought down in the box but the penalty is not given. It was a stone wall penalty.

A few minutes later Eboue is replaced by Theo Walcott as we try to get the goal.

Milan have a good chance in the 78th minute, again from Pato but Almunia is there to save us once again.

I’m feeling that we dominated the tie and deserve to win but Milan are going to nick a goal at the end and go through.
Not for the first time though, I am wrong! We get the late goal and it’s far from the greatest goal you’ll ever see. Cesc takes a shot from range and it doesn’t seem to have much power as it bobble past the keeper into the net. Class, 5 minutes to go and Milan need two goals.

The Milan team are stunned by the goal and am I when 4 minutes of injury time are added on. Nothing to worry about though! Adebayor gets the second with a simple tap in after an excellent and determined run from Theo Walcott.

The Champions of Europe are out, Arsenal are in. Bring on the Draw.
