Remember me? Arsenal Vs Villareal. Champions League Semi-final 1st Leg
Ajax vs Arsenal
5th Aug 2007 - Amsterdam Tournament – Amsterdam Arena

This is last match of the Amsterdam Tournament which also includes Lazio and Athletico Madrid. Like the Emirate's Cup last weekend there is a point for each goal scored.  Lazio vs  Athletico was played earlier and was a goaless draw and as a result  the winner of this match will win the  tournament.

First Half

Arsenal are starting with their strongest possible team (Gilberto and Cesc are missing) and are again wearing the new third choice shirt.

The starting line-up was:

Jens Lehmann
Gael Clichy
Emmanuel Eboue
Kolo Toure
William Gallas
Bacary Sagna (Justin Hoyte 86)
Denilson
Mathieu Flamini
Alexander Hleb
Tomas Rosicky (Eduardo Da Silva 62)
Robin Van Persie (Armand Traore 90)

Bookings for Eboue, Gallas & RVP

The game starts at a very good tempo with some hard tackles going in from both teams - this in not going to be the usual "friendly" game.

Not a lot of chances at either end but I think, in my completely biased view, that Arsenal are the better team. Dominating possession but not creating many chances.

RVP is looking good again and is taking all of the free kicks and corners.....

....what, its Saturday night, go to the beeb for the match report......

....it's looking very much like its going to be a nil all draw when all of a sudden, from an Ajax attack, Clichy picks up the ball deep in the Arsenal half and breaks on a terrifying run down the wing. As he approaches the edge of the Ajax area he steps around the defender and puts a fantastic through ball straight to the feet of Van the man; Bang! 1 nil to the Arsenal and with only 2 mins must be the match winner. It is and Arsenal lift their second trophy in a week.
