Arsenal vs Aston Villa
1st March 2008 – Premier League – Emirates Stadium

After dropping two points last week it’s important we get all 3 points today.

The line up is:

Manuel Almunia
Philippe Senderos (Denilson 79)
Gael Clichy
Bacary Sagna
William Gallas
Abou Diaby (Nicklas Bendtner 59)
Mathieu Flamini (Gilberto 79)
Cesc Fabregas
Alexander Hleb
Theo Walcott
Emmanuel Adebayor

We seem determined today to put last weeks disappointments behind us as we start at ferocious pace.

Walcott has a good effort saved in the 7th minute as he continues his good form.

Villa’s first attack of the game is on the counter attack in the 12th minute. Agbonlahor shows his quick pace as he runs into the box but thankfully Gallas makes the all important tackle at the last moment but at the expense of a corner (which is easily cleared).

Villa show that they are very quick on the attack and are capable of causing us problems.

We continued to control possession and some half chances but the first goal, as so often happens at Emirates, is for the away side.

Again it’s the pace of Agbonlahor that causes us problems and his cross\shot is looks to have been cleared by the improving Phillip Senderos, but unfortunately goes into the goal for an OG in the 26th minute.

Rather than encourage Arsenal to get a quick equaliser, the goal seem to give Villa the confidence to press for a second.

Before the break there are good chances for Maloney and Bouma for Villa and only one shot for Arsenal but Fabregas couldn’t beat the goalie from 8 yards out.

Half-Time

We needed to start the half better but we seemed worse!

We started to create more chances as the second half progressed, but then again so did Villa. In terms of chances it was a pretty even game, and a good game for the neutral. Not a good game for Arsenal though.

As we approached the last 10 minutes we had Aston Villa pegged back in their half as we had chance after chance but we couldn’t get the breakthrough we needed. As we getting towards the end of the time added on it appeared that we would be experiencing only our second home defeat in two seasons, but in the last seconds of the match the ball was crossed into the area and headed down by Adebayor. Bendtner stuck out the foot and knocked the ball into the back of the net. The full-time whistle is blown and we leave the stadium feeling like we have won the match.
