Arsenal vs Birmingham City
12th January 2008 – Premier League – Emirates Stadium

I have been looking forward to this match for a while. Not to see Birmingham city but because I have some friends coming over from the Netherlands to see this game.

There's only one problem though and that is there are 3 of them but only two tickets.

We meet up at the famous cock pub next to Highbury and Islington tube for a few beers and a catch up. I arrive there first and start talking to a Birmingham fan. He was looking forward to going to the emirates for the first time and to watching arsenal play but expecting a defeat, god, I hope so!

We talked about their new manager, Alex McLeish. The brum fans view was that he has not made any difference to their performances. Worryingly he also said that Djourou was shit when he played there on loan for the first half of the season. Great, he's Kolo's replacement while he is away at the African cup.

My friends arrive and after a few more beers we head to the ground. Those with tickets head in through the turnstiles while the others head off towards the touts.

I am pleased that everyone gets in and in fact one of the guys gets a club level seat for only 80 quid.

The line up today is:

Manuel Almunia
Philippe Senderos
Gael Clichy
William Gallas
Bacary Sagna (Abou Diaby 83)
Cesc Fabregas
Mathieu Flamini
Alexander Hleb
Theo Walcott (Nicklas Bendtner 65)
Emmanuel Adebayor
Eduardo

We dominate the first half and have a number of chances without scoring. Birmingham don’t create anything and I’m sure the goals will come.

I'm not wrong either. We take the lead before ht, not from open play but from the penalty spot - another goal for Adebayor.

Half-time

More beer during ht and everyone is sure there will be plenty more goals.

Unfortunately the next goal is for Birmingham and it come after we fall asleep defending a corner.

1-1? How did that happen? We were so much in control everyone is in shock and the stadium goes really quiet apart from the brum fans who go fucking mental.

This completely changes the game because Birmingham change from a side resigned to defeat to suddenly a team having something to fight for.

Fair play to Birmingham, they defend very well, fighting for every ball and we are unable to break them down and it ends up with a draw. It’s disappointing because we end up dropping 2 points at home that we shouldn't have.

More beers are required to console us and more are had during our analysis of the match.

As the night progresses the football talk disappears as we travel around London from bar to bar, club to club until the early hours. It wasn't a good match bit it was a great day.
