Arsenal vs Newcastle
29th January 2008 – Premier League – Emirates Staduim

It’s hard to get motivated for tonight’s match after beating them so convincingly (3-0) in the FA Cup only 3 days ago.

I don’t think I’m the only one who feels like this because when I arrive at the ground, about 15 minutes before KO, there are a ton of empty seats.

There a few differences in the line up:

Manuel Almunia
Philippe Senderos
Gael Clichy
William Gallas
Bacary Sagna
Abou Diaby (Gilberto 77)
Cesc Fabregas
Mathieu Flamini
Alexander Hleb
Emmanuel Adebayor (Theo Walcott 83)
Eduardo (Nicklas Bendtner 72)

The stadium does fill up though as the late arrivals continue to turn up after the match has started and 10 minutes into the match there are no empty seats to be seen.

The game is quite flat but Arsenal are dominating possession. I think that the whole stadium is just waiting for Arsenal to score, ad that includes the lacklustre Newcastle players who, if anything have appeared to get even worse in the past 3 days.

Arsenal are in control but there are no efforts of note in the first 30 or so minutes.

The first real chance comes from a Sagna cross but Eduardo just misses the crucial contact by about an inch.

This seemed to spark Arsenal into life and only a couple of minutes later we take the lead after Adebayor heads from a Flamini cross. One nil to the Arsenal and this is how it remains for the rest of the half.

Half-Time

The second half starts in a similar way to the first with Arsenal in control but not able to convert this dominance into goals (or even chances).

With 20 minutes remaining I was glad that I came to the match. Flamini scored the second goal with a 30 yard screamer. Cesc made an excellent pass to Flamini who unleashed a magnificent shot from 30 yards, yes 30 yards in to the top left corner.

We wrapped up the points when we scored the 3rd with 8 minutes remaining. Bendtner does all of the hard work and although he was in a shooting position he passed to Cesc who slotted the ball home.

Was it a fair result? No, it should have been 6 nil.
