Blackwater & Dengie Spring League, Crouch Division - RESULT

NEWLY PROMOTED TIGERS U8 SECURE VICTORY

Focus Ferrers Tigers U8    3 -  2     Great Notley Sharks
William Putt (2)
Daniel Whitley (16)
George Bass (34)

Tigers played their first game in the Spring League Crouch Division against Great Notley Sharks and a good, hard game of football ensued. The Sharks were solid and a taller team than the Tigers but our boys soon got back to their goal scoring ways with a William Putt shot on 2 minutes after he connected with Daniel Woolmer's sublime corner kick.

It was one way traffic for much of the first half with the Tigers threatening but just couldn't finish. George Bass started up front and harassed the sharp Sharks goalie as well as taking on the big defenders. Connor Unwin started in midfield and Harry Blenkarn took up the right defence alongside Mitchell Dean who both controlled the rear. Daniel Whitley replaced striker George Bass later in the half and scored a well composed goal from a throw in on 16 minutes. The Tigers were roaring, however just before the break, the Sharks suddenly penetrated the Tigers goal and scored right on half time.

Tigers pressured in the second half and another day would have doubled their score, however they just weren't going in despite repeated threats from Connor Unwin, William Putt, George Bass, Daniel Woolmer and Daniel Whitley in particular. We must learn to finish these goal scoring opportunities against defensive teams. Tommy Unwin replaced Harry in defence and made some excellent tackles as well as Lukas Darby coming into left back and got stuck in straight away.

Despite the score line, the Sharks opportunities were rare and Jake Miall had a relatively quiet game with the occasional important stop to make. George Bass came back on and made the Sharks defenders work hard, George broke through on 34 minutes and powered home to make it 3 - 1. Kane Paveley came into midfield and also hassled the Sharks goalie. Like the end of the first half, the Sharks pulled one back right on full time to make it 3 - 2. Thanks also to Andrew Franklin for refereeing a fair game today.

So the Tigers finish their first game in their new division triumphant and looked confident but we must learn from this to make our opportunities count. Well Done boys!

Man of the Match: William "the workhorse" Putt. Scored early on and continually harassed and created opportunities against the big opposition today. Great Job!
