Fulham vs Arsenal
19th January 2008 – Premier League – Craven Cottage

I left it too late to get a ticket for today’s match so I’ll be watching live footage on the internet via sopcast and Star Sports China. It’s English speaking so the commentary if good too.

The line up today is:

Manuel Almunia
Philippe Senderos
Gael Clichy
William Gallas
Bacary Sagna
Cesc Fabregas
Mathieu Flamini
Alexander Hleb
Tomas Rosicky
Emmanuel Adebayor
Eduardo

We are really going to miss Kolo while he is away but hopefully not too much today!

Slow start with nowhere near a shot on goal during the first 5 minutes.

The first good chance falls to Fulham on 7 minutes but Clichy tracks back and wins the ball in the area. The chance ends with a Danny Murphy shot which goes well wide.

Our first shot come a couple of minutes later but Cesc’s low shot from outside the box goes wide.

It’s an entertaining first 15 mins. It’s a very open game and there will be goals, at both ends though unfortunately!

Our second shot also falls to Cesc and also goes wide. This time though it goes over and right but it came after some very good passing and movement from us.

We take the lead on 18 minutes when a cross from Cesc is met by a leaping, and unmarked Adebayor who heads it into the net. One nil to the arsenal!

Another Adebayor chance comes on 26 minutes after a brilliant Cesc pass puts him through on goal but the angle is tight and the shot goes over the bar. It was some pass though from the young magician.

We are looking quite comfortable now and showing resilience that was missing in the opening stages.

Goal number 2 is a mirror image of the first one. This time it’s a cross from Hleb on the right which is headed into the net by Adebayor.

It should be 2-1 now but somehow Murphy’s shot from outside of the area goes over the goal, Almunia would have struggled to make that too.

Fulham are having a good spell now as we approach half-time but they have no real cutting edge in attack.  We have played some very good football in this match so far and we look much better then we did last week against Birmingham.

Half-Time

We nearly get a third just after the restart when a Cesc Fabregas free kick from the right hand side of the area is deflected by a Fulham player but luckily for Fulham it goes wide. The subsequent corner is taken from the left but it’s too high for everyone and goes out for a goal kick.

A couple of mins later we nearly score again when Eduardo makes an excellent run into the box from near the corner flag taking the ball around three Fulham defenders before laying the ball off to Rosicky who flicks it towards goal  but it hits the woodwork.

As we approach the hour mark we are in cruise control. Fulham look defeated and I fancy us to get another before the end. Perhaps it would be wise to take off Cesc and rest him for Tuesdays match against the Yids, but then again, as proved on many occasions, I’m no Arsene Wenger!

Not a lot to talk about for the next few minutes. Fulham head over from a corner in the 68th minute and that seems to lift them as only a minute later they have a goal disallowed for off side to the frustration on the home side.

Adebayor nearly completes his hat-trick a minute later when he is through on goal but Niemi manages to get to the ball first but is injured in the process and the match is stopped for a few minutes while he receives treatment.

We have some class play in and around the Fulham box in the 77th minute but after all of the excellent play, notably by Hleb, Cesc’s shot is poor and it goes wide of the target.

The third goal comes after a very good break and run by Eduardo into the box, he appears to have over run and missed the cross into the box but he manages to get the ball to Rosicky who slots home from 5 yards for deserved 3 nil lead for the Arsenal.

There’s 4 minutes of time added on but we don’t sit back as we pile forward to get the 4th goal. It doesn’t come but it doesn’t matter. We got 3 points and we’re back to our winning ways.
