Liverpool vs Arsenal
28th October 2007 - Premier League - Anfield

I have been looking forward to today’s game all weekend and I’m fairly optimistic too. The match is on Sky TV, so I’ll be watching at home.

We start the match with a 5 man midfield and only Adebayor up front. This is a safety first tactic, although with our team we could quickly turn this into 4-3-3.

Liverpool start of over enthusiastically and Voronin is booked after only 3 minutes for a late tackle on Cesc Fabregas.

A couple of mins later, Cesc gives away a free kick in a very dangerous position. It’s just outside of the area and is in Steven Gerard territory. He takes a powerful shot which goes straight through the middle of the wall and into the back of the net to give Liverpool the lead. A terrible start to the match for us.

We have our first shot after 9 minutes when Hleb shoots well wide from outside the box.

Our main attacking moves are coming from long balls to Adebayor, but there are no real chances of note until the 16th minute when he has a non on one with the keeper, but Reina manages to save the effort.

Most of Arsenals play is down the left with Clichy, who is having another good game for us.

On 20 mins Reina goes to clear the ball from the edge of his box but Rosicky gets there first and chips the ball over him but it’s cleared by Carragher before it goes into the net.

Kolo Toure makes a charge into the Scouse area but Adebayor makes a mess of what should have been a simple layoff, he’s such a frustrating player.

Arsenal are playing well, controlling the match with 66% of possession. Liverpool are unable to get the ball from us as we pass it around the team.

We are very nearly 2 nil down though after some poor defending gives Liverpool 2 corners. From the second corner the ball goes to Steven Gerard whose powerful shot from outside the area is on target and only an excellent Almunia save prevents the goal.

There was the shout for a penalty when Eboue goes down in the box. He’s complaining of an elbow but it’s not given. The TV replays are inclusive too and I think a pen would have been harsh.

There are no more chances in the first half and the stats show the shots are 4-3 to Arsenal, but only one on target and the main stat is that it’s 1 nil to Liverpool.

Half Time

Peter Crouch starts the 2nd half in replacement of Torres who has gone off injured and he immediately has an impact on the game with a couple of good shots on target which are saved by Almunia.

Our best chance of the match so far comes when a good Eboue shot hits the post and goes straight to Cesc but he somehow manages to miss hit the shot and sends it over the empty goal.

Mascherano is booked after 54 minutes for a late two footed tackle on Sagna. He was lucky it wasn’t red, and Sagna is luck he wasn’t injured.

The game opens up and there are chances at both ends. We are dominating possession though and look very good on the ball.

We are playing very central though and are always trying to pass the ball through the congested Liverpool defence rather than playing it wide and crossing the ball in.

On 65 minutes Theo comes on for Rosicky and then a few minutes later Giblets and Bendtner come on for Clichy and Eboue.

There’s another penalty claim after Carragher pulls down Cesc Fabregas but it’s not given and play is waved on by the referee.

The breakthrough comes on 80 minutes when Cesc scores his tenth goal of the season slotting home after some good play, and vision, from Hleb.

We are going to win this now.

It’s a tense finale as both teams have good chances to score. With only a few minutes to go an Excellent shot by Cesc beats the keeper but hits the post. The ball bounces off the post to Bendtner who misses the empty goal completely. He was off-side though so it probably wouldn’t have counted anyway.

It remains 1-1 as the final whistle blows and I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t win the game as we dominated the match. There are not many teams that come to Anfield and have 61% of the possession, but I guess I would have taken a point before the match started. All eyes now on Man Ure.
