Portsmouth vs Arsenal
26th December 2007 – Premier League – Fratton Park

Portsmouth Fans

We name an unchanged side to the one that beat the scum on Saturday. Man Ure went top earlier today after beating Sunderland 4-0. We must win to go top again.

The team is:

Manuel Almunia
Emmanuel Eboue (Abou Diaby 64)
Kolo Toure
Gael Clichy
William Gallas
Bacary Sagna
Cesc Fabregas
Mathieu Flamini
Alexander Hleb (Nicklas Bendtner 82)
Tomas Rosicky
Emmanuel Adebayor

We play 4-5-1, as we have most of the season so far.

Pompey have 4 ex-Arsenal players in their starting line up. Kanu, Sol, Lauren and Richard Hughes (spent one season at Arsenal).

In the last four meetings at Fratton Park in the Premier League, Arsenal have won once and their have been 3 draws.

We have our first chance after only 40 seconds when Eboue whips in a cross but it’s too high for Cesc and goes out of play for a throw in.

The play is quiet for the next few minutes but the atmosphere, as always, is very good.

After 6 mins Eboue has a shot but its wild and goes out of play, nowhere near the target.

All of our best play is coming from the right hand side and Eboue and Hleb are linking up well.

Eboue has another shot on 14 minutes but again it’s wide. Te play is very even between the two sides.

Portsmouth have a good chance on 16 minutes when the ball is crossed into the box but luckily for us it doesn’t fall to a Pompey player.

The Arsenal Fans are singing “There’s only one Tony Adams” to the Portsmouth Assistant Manager.

It’s very even at 50-50 possession and chances.

It look like we will take the lead on 36 minutes when Thomas Rosicky shot is heading into the top right corner but David James somehow managers to keep it out.

Kolo and Gallas show their attacking intent before half time as they both make runs into the Portsmouth half, but to no avail.

Half-Time

Stop ringing that fucking bell you dick head

The first shot of the half comes from Portsmouth but Benjani’s shot provides an easy catch for Almunia.

Arsenal enjoy a good spell on the 50th minute mark and we have a couple of corners but that’s as close to coal as we get.

The team are generally waiting for something to happen rather than trying to make it happen. We are too static waiting for balls to feet and then surprised when we are not first to the ball. Very frustrating.

A Kanu shot for Portsmouth that goes miles over the bar is the only thing of note up to the 65th minutes as both teams cancel the other out.

Eboue is replaced by Eboue on 65th minute as Wenger tries to inject some life into the match.

On 74 minutes, and against the run of play, Benjani is through one on one with Almunia. He manages to take it around the keeper but there’s too much pace on the ball and it allows Kolo to get back and the ball ends up going out for a corner.

After some good build up play a few minutes later Rosicky has a shot but it goes wide.

Hleb goes off for Bendtner on 82 minutes.

Our best chance of the game comes on 88 minutes but Gallas manages to knock the ball over from about 5 yards out. It was a bad miss.

Rosicky blasts wide in the 2nd minute of injury time but the game ends as it started, 0-0.

So Man Ure are now top of the league and I feel that maybe now, with our poor away form, our challenge has come to an end.
