Sevilla vs Arsenal
27th November 2007 – Champions League Match 5 - Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan

Having already qualified for the knockout stages gives us the luxury of being able to rest some players. It’s likely that the winner of this match will be group winners so there’s still something to play for. I think that resting players is dangerous as you should always play your strongest side but Wenger knows and who am I to question.

The team is:

Manuel Almunia
Emmanuel Eboue (Theo Walcott 78)
Kolo Toure
Justin Hoyte (Bacary Sagna 66)
Armand Traore
Philippe Senderos
Denilson
Cesc Fabregas (Tomas Rosicky 56)
Gilberto
Nicklas Bendtner
Eduardo

I miss the first 20 minutes and when I turn on Setanta we are one nil up through an Eduardo goal. The commentator says that it was well deserved as we were playing very well.

They may have been playing well but they stopped as soon as I started watching. All of the play was one way, and was against Arsenal. Seville played the ball around very well and ensured that if they lost the ball that they won it back quickly – Something Arsenal could do with learning.

A mistake by Senderos on the 24th minute gifted the ball to Seville who were able to take the ball to the corner flag where the cross in to the box was diverted into the net from a miss hit Seville shot for the equaliser. It was disappointing but deserved goal for Seville who has created everything in the match so far.

10 minutes they take the lead when Luis Fabiano gets on to the end of an Alves free kick to head past Kolo Toure and Almunia.

We didn’t create anything else in the first half.

Half-Time

Seville start of the second half as they ended the first. In full control. We may have had a penalty shout when Eboue was fouled in the box but it wasn’t given. It was going to get worse for Arsenal too after the Referee points to the spot after Senderos clears the ball with what looks like an arm but luckily for Arsenal, and to the dismay of Seville he changes his mind!

We press for the equaliser but the ref, who seemed determined to give Seville a penalty finally gives them one in the 89th minute when West Ham and Yid reject Freddie Kanute is adjudged to have been brought down by a joint Kolo and Sagna challenge. An iffy decision but it’s given and Kanute converts.

The match ends 3-1 and it’s a poor result in a in poor game.
